Keynote10:00 AMK1 - Keynote - Using Technology to Bridge the Skills Gap
Join us for a discussion that brings to light several ideas and strategies for bridging the skills gap and taking your business to new levels of productivity. There is a growing skilled labor shortage in the manufacturing sector that is affecting all of us. It has become difficult to replace the retiring workforce and to attract new talent into the manufacturing sector. While the outlook may look bleak, many companies are finding ways to bridge this skills gap. They are taking advantage of technology to modernize their systems which allows them to make better use of existing workers, improve their operations and attract new talent.

Keynote12:00 PMK2 - Keynote - Academy of Advanced Manufacturing
The U.S. manufacturing sector is predicted to produce nearly 3.5 million jobs over the next decade. But with more than 20% of manufacturing workers set to retire by 2025, and new technology driving evolving skills requirements, more than 2 million of those jobs could go unfilled. Heading off this crisis demands creative solutions for closing the skills gap and investing in a workforce able to meet the increasing demands of advanced manufacturing. To tackle this challenge, Rockwell Automation has partnered with ManpowerGroup to create the Academy of Advanced Manufacturing (AAM), training military veterans with tremendous technical aptitude and core work skills for in-demand high-tech roles. Expanding on Rockwell Automation’s highly successful Engineer in Training (EIT) program, the Academy of Advanced Manufacturing is a 12-week intensive program that combines classroom training with hands-on lab experience, as well as professional development and soft skills training. Veterans completing the program are certified as Instrumentation, Automation and Controls Technicians and are placed – through a formal interview process - with employers who have critical manufacturing roles to fill. Ultimately, the Academy will scale from the first pilot class, completed last November with 14 graduates, to providing 1000 military veterans per year with the skills to succeed in advanced manufacturing. By the end of 2018, four more classes will have graduated from the program, with more than 150 graduates entering the workforce as job-ready talent to help close this critical gap.
